Barrett is a CPA with more than 35 years of experience in public accounting serving many diverse types of clients including real estate owners and developers, professional service firms, nurseries and cannabis growers, and contractors of all types. Barrett specializes in the following areas, real estate, taxation of closely held businesses, developing strategies to minimize income tax for high net worth individuals and families, pension plan design, estate and succession planning, and business valuation.

Barrett deals with the IRS and state taxing authorities on a regular basis and has successfully handled income tax audits.

Barrett earned a BS in Accounting with high honors from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Oklahoma. Barrett is also accredited in business valuation (ABV) and personal financial planning (PFS) from the AICPA. Barrett received the highest scores in the state of Maryland when he took the CPA exam and was a recipient of the Eligah Watts Sells award.

When not working, Barrett enjoys being on the water either boating, spending time at the beach in the summer or cruising and simply relaxing with his family.

Renée is a CPA with more than 25 years of experience in public accounting. She joined Rock Creek Advisors in January 2025. She has extensive experience in tax services for real estate companies and high net worth individuals. Renée is currently a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA). She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1986. Outside of work Renée enjoys spending time with her family and practicing yoga and tai chi.

John is a CPA with more than 20 years of experience in public and private accounting and joined Penan & Scott P.C. in December 2008. He has experience in audits and reviews for government contractors. John is licensed as a CPA by the Virginia Board of Accountancy in 2004. He received his Bachelor’s (2000) and Master’s (2012) Degrees from the University of Maryland Global Campus (formerly, University of Maryland University College). Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his family, travelling and playing sports. John is an avid Chelsea Football Club fan.

Kyung Kim is a Certified Public Accountant who have over 25 years experience in preparation tax preparation for businesses and individuals. She has Bachelor’s Degree from University of Maryland and Master’s Degree from Johns Hopkins University. When she is not working, she likes to read and watch k-dramas.

Neil started in public accounting in July 2007 and never looked back! He works closely with clients in a variety of industries- real estate, restaurants, professional service groups, and other closely held business. Originally from the Boston area, Neil settled outside of DC after earning both his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland (where he still attends as many Terps basketball games as he can). In his downtime, Neil loves playing boardgames with his family and listening to podcasts.

Anne is a CPA with more than 25 years of experience in public accounting. She has extensive experience in taxation for real estate, small businesses, and professional service groups. Anne is currently a member of the Maryland Association of CPAs. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland in 1998. Outside of work, Anne enjoys yoga, baseball, boating and spending time at the beach.

Ali is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with more than ten years of experience in public accounting, along with five years of academic research in business administration and finance. His background also includes five years in the construction industry as an engineer and project manager. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering in Iran, an MBA in Malaysia, and a master’s degree in accounting and financial management in Portland, Oregon (2014). Ali is an active member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Maryland Society of CPAs. He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling to experience different cultures.
